nurse putting eye drops PMWRPBN

In the past, people with eye conditions that required the prescription of topical medications needed to see a GP or ophthalmologist. However, this is no longer the case, as therapeutically endorsed optometrists can now prescribe medication eyedrops to aid in treating certain eye diseases.

Specialeyes Optometrists are able to prescribe topical medications including:

  • Antibiotics for active eye infections or to prevent infection of damaged ocular tissue

  • Anti-inflammatory eyedrops for conditions such as allergy or dry eye

  • Anti-glaucoma medications in co-management with ophthalmologists
